Extra Care Housing Available

Extra Care Housing schemes throughout Cherwell currently have properties available to rent. Please contact Oxfordshire County Council’s Adult Social Care Team for more information on 03450 507 666, option 1. Vacancies are available at schemes in Banbury, Yarnton and Kidlington. There is a wait for the scheme in Bicester. 

You will usually need to have some form of care need in order to be eligible for Extra Care Housing and your care needs will be assessed by Oxfordshire County Council's Adult Social Care Team. Extra Care schemes are not residential care homes and can be ideal if you have some support needs but want to remain independent. They offer self-contained accommodation within a larger complex where flexible care and support is available on site 24 hours a day.

Notice periods to end tenancies extended

Please note that if your landlord is seeking to end your tenancy, the rules around notice periods have changed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Since September 2020 many notices must now give at least 6 months’ notice.

Viewings during Covid-19 outbreak

Social landlords are now able to conduct viewings and sign-ups as lockdown measured have been eased. Please note that many staff are still required to work remotely and viewings will need to be carried out in a socially distanced way which may cause some slight delays.

Please be aware that most social landlords are not conducting viewings or sign-ups during the Coronavirus outbreak. If you are matched to a property after making a successful bid there is likely to be a number of weeks delay before a viewing and sign-up to the tenancy can take place.

Sheltered and Extra Care Housing

If you are over 55 you may be eligible for sheltered housing or if you have care needs you may be eligible for extra-care housing. There are a number of sheltered and extra-care schemes across the district. Vacancies are not usually advertised on HomeChoice. For more details and how to apply please see our webpage.
